Last week when I saw Alton at his book signing in Sewickley, Penn., he asked me, “Don’t you ever run out of these things?” He was referring to the fact that two weeks earlier I had my copy of Good Eats 3: The Later Years signed in Chattanooga, Tenn. So I promptly explained what happened, I didn’t know there would be an early release of the book and I had an impulse buy!
Anyway, I told AB one of the books came from his publisher for a giveaway and since I was coming to the event, why not get it signed as well. Alton was nice enough to sign the book for lucky person.
So now, to get this copy of GE3, just leave a nice little comment about the show or Alton, what you’ve learned, a favorite application, favorite moment from the show, or anything. Then I will pick the winner from the random number selector on ramdom.org.
The contest is open until October, 19 at 11:59 pm EST.
GOOD LUCK!

My favorite thing about Good Eats was that it was the one cooking show that I could enjoy even if I had no interest in making the particular dish being made. I could still learn something that would help me with another dish, or even a random bit of trivia that I could bring up sometime in the future! I’m seriously going to miss the new episodes, but still make sure my DVR catches all the reruns!
I enjoy Good Eats because of the unique approach to cooking displayed by Alton Brown. Some in our family watch for the entertainment (Alton), some watch for the cooking techniques, and still others enjoy the scientific aspects of cooking. Good Eats is truly a show for the entire family and has something for everyone!
I’m not sure I could name *one* favorite moment from Good Eats because I have so many favorite moments! If I had to choose one, though, it was when AB portrayed Col. Sanders. I also love it when he goes down to his dungeon. My “Ahhh!” moment – one of them, anyway – came when I saw him using a needler for chicken-fried steak.
His chili powder has changed my life!
Love Alton!
Amazing recipes
AB has really helped me prepare for NECI!
Before I started watching Good Eats, preparing a dish with Hamburger Helper was the height of my cooking skill. Disasters in the kitchen trying to expand my repertoire and watching other cooking shows led me to believe that cooking was a talent that some had but which I was sadly lacking. Then one night while channel surfing, I ran across Good Eats and my whole life was changed. Right away I was making things like crepes and souffles and making them successfully. Thanks to Alton, I feel completely at ease in the kitchen and thrilled with skills that I never dreamed that I would possess.
Alton Brown rocks! I loved Good Eats, not only was it good cooking it was entertaining/funny and very interesting, I loved how he told the history of things.
I love Good Eats because it deftly blends education with entertainment. Increased food knowledge inevitably leads to better results when we get creative in the kitchen!
In the mere 6 months I’ve been an Good Eats fan, I’ve learned so much more about food and cooking than I thought I knew–we’d be here all day if I listed everything. But I really appreciate AB’s great application for roasting asparagus (plus the other cooking methods in the “Age of Asparagus” episode) and I’m going to give parsnips another chance (when I was a kid I used to say they tasted like soap!) I already have my copy of Good Eats 3, and if I won this copy I’d give it to a friend and coworker who is a longtime GE/AB fan and saw Alton when he came to San Antonio to sign his GE2 book last year–she was diagnosed with a very serious illness in July and is making a courageous recovery. She loaned me her GE2 book, so I’d like to give her GE3.
My younger kids are much healthier eaters than my oldest, thanks in a large part to Alton Brown and the way he makes cooking accessible to people with no culinary background. He taught us how to cook from scratch which makes it much less tempting to buy prepared meals; he has made a significant contribution to the health of my family and I’m grateful for it!
Good Eats is a great show.
I learn just as much about about chemistry and science as I did about cooking. Love the show. Sad he’s not making them anymore.
The single most useful thing I’ve learned from AB and Good Eats is the trickle method for quickly defrosting meat. I have to use that way more often than I’d like to admit. But it’s sooooo much better than microwave defrosting.
My wife and I love watching Alton. We’ve been watching him since we were married 4 years ago. He’s smart and fun and his recipes are delicious. I hope we win!
I love Alton Brown because Good Eats is one of the show that we can watch in my house as a family. My young children are not subject to things that I wouldn’t want them to see, they are learning about food and cooking, and I always learn something new as well.
Learned how to make perfect banana bread from his books. Got me into cooking in a real way. Other cooking shows never got me that interested in the same way.
Alton taught why not to skip steps. Every other show said “Do this.” AB said “Do this because….” I’ve become a better cook and all my friends love to be guinea pigs! He’s the best!
My biggest lesson learned from Alton Brown is the the only unitasker in the kitchen should be the fire extinguisher. It has made me reevaluate any cooking purchase I make. I have to find at least 2 ways to use something before I rationalize it.
I’ll never look at plain old “regular” salt the same way. Kosher FTW!
Hmm, so many good recipies. But if I had to choose, my go-to recipe is the one for the grilled pizza. What an incredible dough. It takes me an hour to knead it, because I don’t own a KA, but still, it’s worth it.
Alton’s show is the one that got my boyfriend into cooking. And he’s gotten amazing at it. So my favourite thing about Alton is that he created a perfect private chef just for me.
My son and I watch Good Eats together. Our favorite applications are his hot chocolate, chicken pot pie, dutch babies, coconut cake and egg nog. We have so much fun trying out the recipes and learning so much from his shows. Alton is pretty awesome too. We enjoyed meeting him twice now. Thanks!!!
I LOVE Good Eats because I Love food/cooking and science all at the same time! He is lighthearted and fun while teaching! Who could ask for more?
AB has made me really appreciate cooking in a completely different way.
I have always been a science geek, and I love to cook. Alton has shown me how to marry these two favorite things. It is not uncommon to hear, “Is that a multitasker? If not, we don’t need it.” around our house.
I can remember the first episode I ever saw of Good Eats. It was the Season 4, Episode 1: Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fish. I was hooked immediately. I loved the fact that there was a cooking show that not only said “do this”, but actually explained “why” and breakdown the “how it happens”.
I have been an AB fan from the first lesson. His guidance and wisdom will be missed. I am hopeful that there will more AB in the future.
Alton has a sense of humor and style like no other. I will miss the show. I know what ever he does will be great!
Cold smoker = awesomeness.
My favorite thing about Good Eats is that it taught my husband how to cook!
What good thing can’t be said about AB.Great chef, scientist, entertainer, quick witted, cute as a bug.Plus, I really need that book. I’ve searched high and low in this one horse town, and there is not one to be found. Have mercy!
My ‘Patience has been rewarded’ by so many of his GBD recipies !!!
I’ve got all of the other books, this would be a most welcome addition to my bookshelf.
Growing up my family had dinner ready when I got home from school activities so.cooking for me was something I could stick in the microwave. I was always intimidated by the kitchen. I was however obsessed w science. The first time I saw Good Eats I was so excited, combing science w food what could be better! It bled me understand and took the fear aspect from trying to cook. Now the kitchen is my favorite place to be. I love cooking experiments and trying run out on friends and family.
What other cooking show has such pop culture references as Hogan’s Heroes, Raiders of the Lost Ark or Silence of the Lambs? Good Eats is informative, educational and fun. How could you not watch it?
I’ve been watching good eats since i was 11, now being 22, Good Eats has educated me and taught me how to cook! Alton is always using showing us amazing recipes with science and humor. It is my favorite show of all time and always will be. I would LOVE to have an autographed copy of his book!
I love knowing that what I learn on the show can be immediately applied in real life. His practical, inventive tips have helped me to streamline my kitchen necessities and take my cooking to the next level. I can’t thank Alton enough for honoring the foodie geek in all of us. I have always wanted to get to a book signing to express my gratitude, however our paths have not crossed to date. Thanks for offering up the opportunity to share in a little of the Awesomeness
